Lasikeye surgery is a process in which laser is performed underneath the corneal flap so as to reshape that cornea. This procedure makes use of highly specialized laser that is designed for treating refractive errors, eliminating or reducing the need of contact lenses or glasses, and improving vision. Laser procedure helps to alter the shape of cornea that is a transparent front covering the eye. For performing Lasik, specially trained eye surgeons are required. They create a tiny thing corneal flap hinged using microkeratome. They will then pull the flap back so as to expose underlying corneal tissue. Now, laser reshapes that cornea in a specific pre-specified pattern depending on the need of the patient. Gently the flap is repositioned on the underlying cornea without creating sutures.

The cornea (front surface) and the lens inside your eye are responsible for focusing incoming lights rays from the retina surface. In perfect optical system, lens and cornea power are matched perfectly with eye length and images get focused properly. If mismatch occurs, which is also called refractive error, the result is that blurred image is seen at some location. Some primary refractive errors include-:

Nearsightedness (Myopia)-: mismatch of eye length and focusing power cause far-off objects to become blurred and near objects are clear.

Farsightedness (Hyperopia)-: people suffering from hyperopia have mismatching in eye length and focussing power because of which near objects become blurred and distinct objects are relatively clearer.

Astigmatism-: people having astigmatism will have lens or corneal shape distorted because of which they will see multiple images of the same object in their retina. As a result of this, object at all distances will appear blurry to them. Lasik eye surgery is a way of correcting refractive errors and reduces the requirement of some other visual aid like glasses and contact lenses.
